1893 World's Columbian Exposition Bronze Medal, Eglit #112. Obverse: Bust of Columbus wearing doublet facing left in high relief. "Christopher Columbus" written around the edge. Reverse: Landing of Columbus. Columbus in full armor. In his right hand a sword pointing downward. At right, an Indian woman is seated and behind her an Indian holding a staff. In the distance, at sea, the caravels at anchor with sails furled. In small letters at the bottom "Christopher Columbus Landing and Taking Possession of the Island which he names San Salvador Oct. 12, 1492." According to Eglit, the medal was Designed by Lea Ahlborn (name is printed in small letters on the reverse) of the Royal Mint, Stockholm, Sweden, on order of Scott Stamp & Coin, Co., the publisher of the medal. Size: 2" diameter by 1/8" thick. Condition: Extremely Fine, very light wear.
