1878 Paris Exposition Universelle 5 volume set of hard cover books: "Paris Universal Exposition", "Reports of the United States Commissioners". Each volume pictures the front of the fair's official medal in gold on the front cover and the back of the medal on the back cover. Each volume focuses on a several specific areas: "Iron and Steel", "Glass", "Fine Arts", "Wood-Carving", "Textile Fabrics", "Agricultural Implements" and "Products", "Horticulture", "Chemical Processes", "Clocks and Watches" and much more, too much to list here. The first volume goes into specific discussion about the fair, its committees, regulations and even the forms that had to filled out. The books are filled with illustrations of the various objects, machines, etc. that were on display at the fair. The exhibition discussions include foreign participants as well as the US. There is a color map of the layout of the inside of the buildings. Each volume has an index in the back and they contain from 464 page to 702 pages, totaling 2995 pages including the indexes. If you want to know every aspect of this early and wonderful Paris fair, these books will provide many evenings of knowledge and enjoyment. Size: 6 1/2" wide by 9 1/2" high. 2995 pages total. Condition: Very Fine to Extremely Fine. There are some spots on a some of the first pages and some minor damage on each volume, but the insides are clean and the drawings of the objects are wonderful. Even the tissue paper that covers the plates appear to all be there.
