1893 World's Columbian Exposition
The Journey - Semi-High Relief, Aluminum, 50mm
Produced in Italy for the Columbian Expo, this iconic design has a proof-like cameo appearance and is very well struck. Obverse has the Discoverer in a circle unrolling map, surrounded by oak leaves. Soft cap and clean shaven face gives Columbus an "elf-like" appearance. Reverse has two divine women seated, overlooking the Expo as a majestic eagle above holds a riband inscribed E. Pluribus Unum. Listed as Eglit 55, Starlust ST-eg-55a, Unlisted in HK or SC$. An R-5 which we give a grade of MS-64+. There are some hairlines in the obverse fields, but they seem to vanish when the medal is in the light. A very impressive piece for collectors. Provenance - Steve Starlust Collection.
